The Arce Valley

Northern Navarra: Land of farmers, cheesemakers, shepherds, and musicians, of myths and legends; of small valleys, paths, meadows with horses, cows, sheep, streams, beeches, oaks, deer, birds, and vultures; small trails that walk us through history, leading us to quaint villages and Romanesque churches, palaces, and hidden bunkers.

The Arce Valley is a mountainous area located between central Navarra to the south and the Pyrenees to the north. It follows the course of the Urrobi River, and we are equidistant from Pamplona and St. Jean Pied de Port (in France): a 40-minute drive in either direction. On the way to Pamplona, you will pass through Úriz (4 km away), Nagore (5 km), the Itoiz Reservoir, Aoiz, and Alzuza… and on the way to St. Jean Pied de Port, you will pass through Espinal (7 km), Burguete (8 km), Roncesvalles (10 km), Valcarlos, and Arnegui. This north-to-south route also follows the Eurovelo 3 (or Eurovelo of the Cathedrals or Pilgrims), which runs through Europe from Tromso in Norway to Santiago de Compostela. The route of this European bike path passes just 1 km from Venta de Arrieta.

In the center of the valley, where we are located, the spaces narrow and the villages rise. This terrain has allowed many of its villages to maintain their authenticity, architecture, paths, and tranquility.

“The Arce Valley still preserves an agricultural and livestock culture that has shaped the landscape over the centuries. This privileged location offers us a wide range of activities related to nature and culture.”
